Reception
Reception Vision
To create an environment where children feel safe, happy, inspired, settled, and enjoy exploring and learning.
What Reception looks like at Stanford Infants:
- A free flow system that allows the children to independently explore a range of activities linked to the current Learning Journey but also celebrating interests and enthusiasms. All areas of learning in the EYFS will be evident and Teachers and TAs will be engaged in scaffolding learning and play in a variety of ways.
- Both indoor and outdoor learning in Alex, Palace and Pier classrooms, alongside the Exploration Zone (a shared indoor area), the Adventure Area (a large shared outdoor area) and the Calm Garden (a smaller quiet outdoor area).
- Children independently accessing tools and materials needed and able to manipulate the Learning Environments to suit their own needs.
- Working Areas reflecting the current learning, and the learning that has taken place previously, ensuring previous learning is consolidated and extended.
- Established and effective use of learning partners, lollysticks, steps to success and routines.
- Children’s learning is recorded in age appropriate ways including in an electronic Learning Journal called Tapestry which enables Teachers and Teaching Assistants to make observations of children’s learning. These are regularly shared with families as a way of celebrating learning and development. Families can also share special moments that happen outside of school with the school.
- Confident children who feel safe and happy at school, are enthusiastic in their learning and are developing their independence.

Online Learning Journal
At Stanford Infant School, we use electronic Learning Journals, to help staff and families celebrate their children’s learning and development. Using photos, videos, and diary entries, we will develop a holistic picture of each child and how they are growing and developing.
The Tapestry platform then works seamlessly to enable these memories to be kept as a permanent record of each child’s unique journey. Parents or carers are able to view their child’s progress, the activities provided for them, and how much fun they’re having, whilst also uploading their own comments and media.
This communication helps us to build a shared understanding of how every child can reach their full potential
