We are proud to be an accredited provider for ‘Let’s Get Cooking’ (set up by the Children’s Food Trust), the country’s largest network of healthy cooking clubs for children and their families. Our cooking club encourages our children and families to get cooking and we enjoy taking part in community events. Our two wonderful bakers, Mrs Edwards and Miss Brooks, are our cooking club experts and work hard to inspire children to enjoy cooking. They run an After School Cookery Club for children in Year 2, always offer Cookery as a Golden Choice and don their aprons to facilitate the ‘big bake off’ for whole school PTFA events.

In 2014 we began to fulfil our culinary dream by fundraising for a brand new children’s kitchen and in the Autumn of 2015 this became reality. Star of ‘The Great British Bake Off’, Kate Henry, officially opened our kitchen by supporting the children in making one of her sugar free recipes to share with their families at our ‘Open Days’ in the summer of 2015. Everyone enjoyed the delicious and healthy truffles!

The Eatwell Plate

Every year we take part in the National ‘Big Cookathon’! Big Cookathon

Children, families and members of the community compete against budding cooks across the country in a healthy eating challenge. The idea is to get as many people cooking the same healthy eating recipe over the long weekend. In 2014 we were delighted to be awarded the national winner for outstanding event! Brighton and Hove School Meals Team in conjunction with Eden Foodservice always fully support this event and send a team of experts to run the workshops. Each year group takes part in a food preparation workshop and at lunchtime the children enjoy their lunch, freshly prepared by them! This year the event takes place on Friday 22nd April 2016.

We also took part in the ‘Cookbook Initiative’ creating our very own school cookbook, inviting children and their families to contribute their favourite tasty, healthy recipe. The Cookbook is still on-sale from the school – please ask at the School Office.
